Sarah’s story
Devon

Sarah struggled to cope as a teenager – she was impulsive, confused, angry, even self-harming. Eventually she was diagnosed with a mental health disorder.

But by then her life had spiralled so out of control that she was homeless...

Sarah just needed somewhere to find her feet

‘I realised that no one was going to turn my life around for me. I just wanted a normal future with a normal home and a normal job.

‘If it wasn’t for Shelter I would be facing a life on the streets.’

Sarah’s not the only one

In your area:

596 children are currently homeless

There’s been a 38% rise in calls to our helpline in just one year

2,547 families faced eviction or repossession last year

Shelter’s Devon service

The average cost of helping a family at our Devon centre is £139.

Our expert legal advisers give free legal advice and even go to court to make sure people get a fair hearing.

But with affordable homes in short supply and rents soaring, we’re having to help more people than ever before.

That’s why we need to raise £29,026 to keep our Devon service open and helping people in the South West.

We simply can’t do it without your help.
