Jane’s story

Jane lived in an overcrowded third-floor flat with her three children.

When her boys (who have Aspergers and Autism) tried to climb out the window and she was threatened with eviction, she needed to move urgently.

Jane's overcrowded third-floor flat was too dangerous for her boys to keep living there

Shelter’s Hackney Family Service

The average weekly cost of helping a family at our Hackney Family Service is £102.

Our expert advisers provide intensive support (for up to a year) to prevent homelessness. We also help families with other issues such as mental health, substance use, domestic violence, anti-social behaviour and getting back into work.

But with rents high and affordable homes in short supply, we’re having to help more people than ever before.

That’s why we need to raise £347,518 to keep our Hackney centre open and helping people near you.

We simply can’t do it without your help.
