Ahmed’s story
Essex

Ahmed was working as a nurse and studying for a PhD when a routine operation went horribly wrong.

Very, very ill, Ahmed couldn’t work or study. And soon after, the family were evicted...

An operation went terribly wrong and Ahmed’s family ended up homeless

‘I had to have an operation, but they accidentally punctured holes in my large intestine, and I became very, very ill. Soon after my wife opened an eviction letter – my whole family would be homeless.

‘But Shelter really came through for us. They always listened to us and fought for us.’

Ahmed’s not the only one

Shelter’s Essex service

The average cost of helping someone at our Essex centre is £192.

Our expert legal advisers give free legal advice and try to stop vulnerable people becoming homeless in the first place.

But with affordable homes in short supply and rents soaring, we’re having to help more people than ever before.

That’s why we need to raise £429,291 to keep our Essex service open and helping people near you.

We simply can’t do it without your help.
